2017 Cadillac SRX Review, Redesign

The rumors are churning and the talk of the automotive town is that the beginning of 2016 will bring to the automotive world the redesigned 2017 Cadillac SRX, also known as the Cadillac XT5. While the news has not yet been confirmed by any officials and the specs are still speculation, the new design is already causing a stir. The new name comes as part of Cadillac’s new naming scheme featuring either CT for sedan and coupe models and XT for crossovers and SUVs. This new SRX/XT5 model, also known as the “future car” will replace the previous SRX model and is intended to offer enhanced performance and comfort as a family car with redesigned and improved interior, exterior and engine options.

2017 Cadillac SRX Redesign

As a mid-size luxury crossover, the 2017 Cadillac SRX is speculated to be moving to the Chi platform, and is said to be available in two different wheelbases designed to hold five to seven people. Either architectural form features a more spacious interior than previous models and will provide passengers more head and leg room for more comfort on longer journeys. The interior also boasts updated technology such as keyless entry, Bluetooth, satellite navigation and a premium audio system. However, the front display has been simplified and should be more straight-forward and user friendly than other models. A leather interior option will also hopefully become available for added comfort.

Redesigned safety features include parking sensors, adaptive cruise control and a rear camera. A new airbag design is also supposed to debut.

Not to be outdone by the updated luxury interior, the redesigned exterior has also moved towards a more futuristic, bold composition. Although the style follows the Cadillac trend of a shield-shaped grille and vertical headlights, the chrome grille is wider and deeper than other models. The 2017 Cadillac SRX also moves the exterior design forward with an angled front section and dual chrome exhaust pipes in the back complemented by boomerang-shaped taillights on a higher tailgate. The wheel space has also increased. Despite the bigger interior space and exterior design, lighter materials used in the design will help to make this model more aerodynamic than previous designs.

Powering the 2017 Cadillac SRX is a few engine options, including the Turbo engine 2.0 liter or 2.4 liter, or an updated V6 3.6 liter. A direct-injected and turbocharged V6 2.7 liter could also feature as new designs are in the works by the maker. For an environmentally conscious option, the Ecotec engine 2.4 or 2.5 liter could also be an option. Each engine will have six-speed automatic transmissions and the aim is said to be 23 MPH on the highway.

The use of LNT (Lean Nox Trap) is also supposed to be incorporated into the new 2017 Cadillac SRX, and is meant to reduce NO and NO2 using FCP filters.
