New model year will not bring much news for the upcoming 2016 Toyota Highlander. Since this mid-size crossover recently had a major makeover, which marked the end of the second and beginning of the third generation, it is unlikely that Japanese manufacturer will change much. Small alterations are expected, though, in order to keep the Highlander fresh and desirable on the market.

Exterior of the upcoming 2016 Toyota Highlander should stay the same, at least when it comes to its shape. Toyota may decide to change few things, details which will give the new image of the current model. New body paints are definitely something we do expect from the 2016 model. Beside change of color, new Highlander may come with some special equipment packages, which will include various exterior details, which will additionally enhance the handsome look of this SUV.

Interior of the 2016 Highlander will receive majority of updates for the upcoming model year. We can expect some features to be added to the list of standards, as well as updates of the existing technologies. Highly equipped Highlander also offers great interior space and enough room to accommodate up to eight passengers in three rows of seats. Functionality and space are its main qualities, while its features are offered in five trim levels including LE, LE Plus, XLE, Limited and Limited Platinum.

Under the hood, Toyota will continue with the same engines for its Highlander. This offering includes two engines – a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder and a 3.5-liter V6. Four-cylinder enigne is capable to deliver up to 185 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. The power is transfered to front-wheels via 6-speed automatic transmission.

Second, stronger option, 3.5-liter V6 delivers 270 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque. Transmission is the same, but it transmits the power to either front- or all-wheel drive. Maximum towing capacity of the Highlander is above average, and it is rated at 5,000 pounds.

When it comes to fuel consumption, we can expect the same rates as before, since there will not be any chnages that might affect this segment. This means that 2016 Toyota Highlander will be able to return 20/25/22 mpg city/highway/combined when packed with a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder engine. Packed with a V6 unit and front-wheel drive, it returns 19/25/21 mpg, and with all-wheel drive 18/24/20 mpg city/hwy/combined.

Even though it is still early to release exact information about the price or release of the model, Toyota has hinted these data. 2016 Toyota Highlander will not appear on the market before fall, while its sales date should begin during the last months of this year. Its price will, most likely, stay unchanged, or feature some minimal increase, which means we can expect it to start around  $30 000.
