2016 Subaru Forester

Japanese automotive manufacturer prepared lots of surprises for few upcoming years regarding its models. 2016 Subaru Forester will be slightly upgraded, but, as soon as next (model) year, it will be significantly changed. Current, fourth generation started with 2014 Forester, and it brought significant upgrades of the model. 2016 Forester will not come without any upgrades; it will be refreshed in couple of segments.

When it comes to what we can expect from Subaru Forester, Subaru revealed its 5-year plan which reveals upcoming changes for some of its models, including Forester. The plan is called “Prominence 2020” and 2020 stands as a benchmark for the realization date. New platform, more efficient engines and 20% sales increase are all part of this plan. 2017 Subaru Forester will be built on a new platform, which will be shared with Outback.

Changes which will be done for 2016 Subaru Forester include features enhancement and couple of exterior upgrades. Few extra colors might be added for 2016 model year, while some sources indicate that we can expect even engine additions. However, we wouldn’t like to speculate, so when some of Subaru’s officials confirms the claim, we will inform you about it.

With, or without some new engine, Forester carries its previous model year engine range. Base engine is a 2.5-liter inline-4 that is capable to deliver up to 170 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque. Six-speed manual transmission is standard, at least for the lower trims, while Subaru continues to offer CVT, as optional or standard, depending on trim.

Second engine available is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that generates 250 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. 2016 Forester with this engine will have only CVT, and no other option.

Fuel economy stays the same, so we can expect 23/28/25 mpg city/highway/combined, with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. 2016 Foresters with a 2.5-liter inline-4 and manual transmission will return 22/29/24 mpg city/highway/combined, and 24/32/27 mpg with a CVT.

The closest rivals for the latest Forester are still Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson and Nissan Rogue. Considering that all these models are recently redesigned, customers can expect high level of equipment and great styling from each one of them.

Subaru will continue to offer its Forester with price range from $22,000 up to $35,000, since new model year didn’t brought any major changes. As we approach to 2016 Subaru Forester’s release date, we will have more info, but since its reveal is not expected before mid-2015.
