2016 Dodge Journey Changes, redesign, release date

2016 Dodge Journey will be quite a surprise, for various reasons. First of all, the model will be redesigned, and will start new generation with 2016 model year. Besides that, American producer will change the building location of the upcoming Journey. From its factory in Mexico this mid-size crossover SUV will be relocated to Sterling Heights, Michigan.

2016 Dodge Journey changes and news

Since this plant in Michigan already produces the 2015 Chrysler 200, we can expect new Journey to be built on some version of Chrysler 200’s platform, known as CUSW platform. Beside 200 model, the same platform is used for Jeep Cherokee, which gives us an idea what we can expect from redesigned 2016 Dodge Journey. The reason for this relocation is in cost reduction, since the Michigan plant enables easier approach to local dealers, which reduces the transportation costs.

Since upcoming Journey SUV isn’t spotted yet, it is hard to deliver precise info about changes that will happen for the 2016 model year. Still, based on some reliable sources, we can predict some overall changes in its design. Due to the fact that its competitors, such as Ford Escape and Kia Sorento, offer more attractive appearance, new Journey will receive some styling updates. Its overall rounded body shape will be more streamlined, with sharper edges and more aggressive front end. Interior will also be revised and it will be made with better materials and more features.

2016 Dodge Journey engine and fuel economy

Dodge offers its Journey in completely 7 trims which include AVP (American Value Package), SE, SXT, SXT Plus, Crossroad, R/T and Limited. We doubt that 2016 Dodge Journey will change this line-up or that it will introduce new engines. In fact, performance of the new Journey will depend on same engines as before.

Base engine for majority of Dodge’s line-up is a 2.4-liter Inline-4 DOHC which is capable to deliver up to 173 horsepower and 166 lb-ft of torque. Optional for most trims (beside AVP and SE) and base for the top two (R/T and Limited) is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 powertrain with 283 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Transmission choices will remain the same, including 4-speed and 6-speed automatic transmissions, both with AutoStick.

Regarding 2016 Dodge Journey fuel economy, we do believe that it will feature an upgrade compared to last year’s average 25 mpg on the highway. In fact, the platform change should also bring some weight reduction which would help these figures, as well as some fuel saving technologies.

2016 Dodge Journey price and release date

Release of the model is not expected for a while now. It will probably not happen by the end of next year. In fact, according to some prognoses 2016 Dodge Journey will probably start its production in January 2016, around time of its presentation. Pricing specs are unavailable, so we can only speculate about what we can expect. Hard rivals form its segment and competitive field will also unable some big increase. Based on what we just wrote, price of the 2016 Journey is expected to start slightly under $22,000 for AVP model, and go up to $32,000 for Limited trim.
