2016 Cadillac XT5 Review, Price

The 2016 Cadillac XT5 is on its way as the replacement for the SRX as Cadillac’s newest midsize crossover offering. The XT5 is expected to be released in late 2015 and available for sale in early 2016. Car lovers will be able to get a look at the new vehicle at the Los Angeles Auto show, which was scheduled to take place in late November 2015.

No one knows all the details yet about the upcoming 2016 Cadillac XT5, but some car enthusiasts and journalists have spotted the car, including an undisguised version parked for a photo shoot in Manhattan. The vehicle as photographed features some of the latest trends in Cadillac design, including cascading daytime running lights, a large front grille, the new Cadillac badge that eliminates the traditional laurel wreath, and hard exterior angles. The badge is the same on used on Cadillac’s ATS, CTS, and CT6 sedans. There are two exhaust manifolds. The car is expected to weigh less and have a firmer feel than the SRX in order to improve the drive and fuel efficiency.

Inside, drivers can expect premium leather. The four-door version comes with a trunk door. Seating will be available for up to seven passengers. Inside features will include a host of gadgets, including satellite navigation, touchscreen, and an Android operating system.

Insiders in the automotive world report that the 2016 Cadillac XT5 will incorporate a new type of front-wheel drive platform that GM has dubbed the “C1XX.” It’s expected to come with optional all-wheel drive. The engine type is a 3.6-liter V6, which will offer 420 HP and 410 lbs per foot of torque. The engine might be paired with GM’s new 9-speed automatic or a 6-paced automatic transmission. Expect the XT5 to go from 0-60 mph in 7 seconds and achieve a top speed of 124 mph. It should get mileage of 24 mpg on the highway and 16 mpg in the city.

There’s also the possibility that the XT5 will be produced in a plug-in hybrid version and maybe even with a diesel engine.

The starting price for the 2016 Cadillac XT5 should be around $40,000. Prices for fully equipped vehicles with options such as upgraded trim will be higher. The car is being built at General Motor’s Spring Hill, Tennessee, plant. That’s a change from the SRX plant location in Mexico. The Spring Hill plant builds the Chevrolet Equinox, which uses GM’s Theta architecture for smaller crossover vehicles. Car watchers expect the XT5 to represent an update of the Theta base.
