The 2016 Audi Q1is an all-new mini crossover built by German automaker, which will be the first and smallest in Audi’s Q-line up. Although it still unclear whether Audi will launch the 2016 Q1 model for US market at first, this model will eventually arrive in the USA.  Audi recently added the Q3 model, which is around 10 inches smaller than the Q5, and new Q1 will be the smallest of them all, and the cheapest.

Audi’s decision to create small SUV which will compete with other mini-crossovers, such as Nissan Juke and MINI Countryman is mainly based on market’s demand. This SUV category is currently in expansion and all biggest manufacturers are in race for time. Adding the Q1 to its SUV line-up, along with recently presented Q3 ensures the SUV market is covered completely by this German giant.

2016 Audi Q1 will be based on VW Group’s scalable MQB platform, which will help it to save weight and offer great fuel economy. However Audi will have to make some compromises with the features, in order to keep the low weight of the baby SUV. By leaving out some equipment, the Q1 will be able to differentiate itself from the Q3 leaving enough space for customers to choose between these two SUVs. Its size will be smaller than the Q3, while the Q3 will feature an increase for the next generation, in order to offer more space, and more differentiation from smaller Q1 and bigger Q5.

Exterior of the 2016 Audi Q1 will mark the beginning of the new design era for all Q-models. Exterior and interior design is evolved by Marc Lichte, Audi’s design chief. New model appearance will be more crossover-based than regular SUV. Its interior will be designed in minimalistic style, with cockpit turned towards the driver. Still, there is no any precise or detailed info regarding the design, but we will update you about it, as soon as it becomes available. What is known is that 2016 Q1 will be five-door five-passenger model.
